Yeah, Facebook Is Evil.
The Capitol Hill testimony from the Facebook whistleblower just confirms what has been evident about the social media giant for years.
Facebook’s official mission statement reads, in part:
Facebook’s mission is to give people the power to build community and bring the world closer together.
But in the 17 years since the social media behemoth was founded, one thing has been proven clear: Facebook’s true purpose isn’t connecting people.
Its real purpose is to generate profits by selling ads. Ads based on the personal data collected from all its users is the source of most of the company’s staggering net worth.
Selling advertising has made the social media company one of the largest corporations in the world. In 2020, 98% of its 86 billion dollars in total revenue was derived from its advertising business.
Connecting people and building communities sounds noble, but it has always been a carefully and strategically crafted public relations facade the company uses to appear as a benevolent corporation.
But Facebook’s facade is crumbling.
