We Need To Stop Lying To Ourselves About 9-to-5 Jobs

Capitalism has deceived us for too long

There is a new wave of essays warning us about the harsh realities of quitting our jobs to start a business.

The prevailing advice now is to keep our 9-to-5 job and start a “side hustle” if we desire to become our own boss. Others council not to quit our regular employment at all, but instead change our perspective about our work.

The bottom line to all this?

We need to wake up from dreaming about gaining freedom from the corporate rat race via freelancing, side-hustling, and starting businesses.

Why?

Because it’s not as easy or risk-free as financial gurus like Tim Farris, Robert Kiyosaki, and Chris Guillebeau promise.

I wholeheartedly agree.

Instead, we’re encouraged to hold on to our 9-to-5 jobs because then we have a “stable and reliable” source of income.

I wholeheartedly disagree.

The commonly held belief that 9-to5 jobs are the most secure form of income is a lie; it’s a lie perpetuated by the wealthy to keep us trapped in capitalist exploitation.
