The oppression that African Americans (specifically descendants of enslaved Africans conscripted into chattel slavery) is based on race. The concept of race was created by white Americans to create a caste system in the United States, and to place African American in the lowest rung of that system. For us, there is no "moving beyond race," because this anti-Black society will not let us move beyond race. Systemic racism is based on race. Social and economic inequity is based on race. Again, a concept African Americans did not create, but are subjected to. Also, you point out being gay, but there are African Americans who are gay as well, and they experience anti-Blackness within the gay community. It would behoove you to listen to those whose lived experiences are not yours, instead of lecturing others about how they should respond to the oppression they face.
