It's interesting, many of the racists and trolls who've responded to this article conflate America's wealth and political power with "greatness." But a nation built on the genocide and theft of land from indigenous people and the economic base created by the exploitation of enslaved Africans was never "great." When the ideals of the United States aren't true for EVERY citizen, this nation hasn't come close to greatness. Is the U.S. perfect? No. No society is. But when a nation claims freedom and liberty as a foundational tenet, yet purposely and intentionally oppresses segments of its citizenry, the hypocrisy reeks - and the world has caught a deep whiff of the foul odor.
