THANK YOU for stating this truth! It's frustrating and insulting when white people interact with me based on images they see in the media. I worked in the corporate sectors (both for-profit and not-for-profit) for over 20 years before working for myself. During my corporate career, I can't tell you how often white coworkers would approach me and say "Wow, you are so well spoken!", "You are so eloquent!" or "I like you Rod. You're different than other Black people." (Yes, this is a true statement actually verbalized to me.) Worse still, they meant these demeaning statements as compliments. Ah, the life of Black professionals in corporate America. I do not miss it.
