Society LOVES to create Horatio Alger-type myths based on the "pull yourself up by your own bootstraps" lie. The latest example is worshipers of Jeff Bezos. "He started Amazon in his garage and became the world's richest person!" The crucial details that get left out is how he went to an Ivy League college his family could afford to send him to - and they "lent" him $300,000 to co-create his then-"bootstrapped" start up (his ex-wife Mackenzie Scott helped him start Amazon). The rich are venerated solely for being rich because deep down too many of us still believe the lie of the "American Dream."
