"Most of the MAGA acolytes I know pine for the 1980s when law-abiding whitefolk had it good, Black people weren’t clamoring for change..."

Matthew, here I must correct you. Black Americans have always fought for freedom. The idea the enslaved were ever just docile and resigned to the subhuman status assigned them in the United States is grade A propaganda. This fallacy is yet another reason this nation's complete, unvarnished, un-whitewashed history must be taught. The enslaved constantly revolted and rebelled against their enslavers.

After chattel slavery ended, Black Americans always fought for their human and equal rights to be recognized. Any other assertion is just a bald-faced lie.

Also, you keep describing white people as "law-abiding" as if that is inherently a positive trait. However, laws can be unjust and used to propagate great evil. Keep in mind, for hundreds of years in the United States, it was perfectly legal to own the enslaved. Enslavers were "law-abiding" according to the unjust, immoral, and evil laws upholding the institution of chattel slavery and the human trafficking that supplied it.

Again, it is so vital for this nation's full history to be taught to rebut such distortions of the truth.
