Living Paycheck-To-Paycheck Is Not Our Fault

My visceral response to another article advising us to ‘live within our means’ to stop living paycheck-to-paycheck

I am pissed off.

I recently read an article on Medium where the author’s solution to many Americans (barely) living paycheck-to-paycheck is to:

  • “Save more!”
  • “Live within your means!”
  • “Stop impulse buying due to FOMO”
  • “Stop accumulating debt. Pay off those credit cards!”
  • “Cook more meals at home!”

Here’s a more effective solution rarely put on the table:

Make the wealthy and corporations PAY THEIR DAMN TAXES! Close all the loopholes in the U.S. tax code allowing big businesses and rich individuals to avoid paying taxes.

This strategy alone would do a great deal to resolve income inequality in the United States.

But no, let’s continue to brow beat and demonize the poor and those struggling financially.

Let’s ignore how wages have stagnated for decades while the cost of everything has skyrocketed. But hey, Elon Musk got a $50 billion payday approved by Tesla shareholders because he has a cult of sycophants…
