I regret I didn’t discover your essay until now at the end of the year, but I do think it’s very telling to reflect on how the outpouring of “white allyship” from this summer played out. Unsurprisingly, white furor over the injustices we Black Americans face was just another temporary inflection point that cooled off along with the weather. In fact, this country’s true racist face reasserted itself after the 2020 election when over 73 million people voted to keep a corrupt bigot as president. There goes the theory about the “awakening” of white America to its racism many proclaimed heralded a cultural paradigm shift towards social justice and racial equality.
