I find it refreshing that the incumbent CEO of a major internet platform claims to want to listen to the users before instituting policy and operational shifts. However, I've been around for awhile and am a skeptical "the proof is in the pudding" kind of guy. What changes do I want to see in Medium? I want to see more Black and marginalized authors who write in diverse niches elevated. Most of the trending Medium stories are related to tech, cryptocurrencies, and in the past, fluffy self-help niches written overwhelmingly by white authors. Black and marginalized voices tend to be lost in the shuffle. Many will argue this site appeals to conservative, white men. I tend to agree, but if a concerted effort were made to hire more BIPOC personnel behind the scenes of this platform and give BIPOC authors more promotion, Medium would appeal to a wider audience - if that is the kind of direction sought. Which, given Silicon Valley and who runs it... well, again, I'm a skeptical guy. But it would be nice.
