I can only imagine the mixed emotions you felt. I'm a native Southerner (Arkansas) and have never been to a "plantation." But I've known of former white colleagues and co-workers who have attended weddings and other social gatherings on those sites. In my opinion, the mistreatment of the enslaved should be front-and-center at every exisiting enslaved labor camp site. They most definitely should not be bed-and-breakfasts and venues for social gatherings. It's just obscene and further evidence of this nation's psychotic denial of the truth of it's past.
