Yes, this title is intended to be clickbait. But it’s also typical of far too many similarly titled pieces now prevalent all over this platform.

I’ve been on Medium for nearly eight years now and have seen numerous waves of flashy, hollow trends flow through this site.

At one point, many people gained popularity on here by proclaiming themselves to be self-help gurus in the mold of Tony Robbins. These writers produce an avalanche of self-help pieces with insipid titles like “3 Easy Steps To True Happiness,” while offering nothing but the most trite, recycled platitudes pop psychology has to offer.

The self-help industry does big business and the proliferation of self-help-related articles on Medium reflects that.

Next is the productivity wave with authors promising to tell you “10 Tips To Increase Your Productivity Right Now!” Because the worse thing on earth you can be is unproductive and spend some time enjoying your life.

God forbid!

Now, we are experiencing a surge of articles being published by opportunists claiming to reveal how they “Make $$$ dollars A Day!”

These articles epitomize the essence of clickbait: they have too-good-to-be-true…
