I’m an unapologetic early morning person.

There’s just something about the break of dawn that has always felt serene. The world seems quieter, less chaotic during the wee hours of the day.

Feeling cool breezes caress my face while I listen to the serenade of birds greeting the sun?

Priceless.

One of the few benefits of living in the South is its natural beauty. Vibrant, verdant flora is everywhere: lining boulevards, along riverfronts, adorning homes and buildings.

In the hustle and bustle of daily life, it’s so easy to take for granted the lush bounty nature affords this region of the country.

As a way of decompressing from life’s stressors, as well as getting a respite from the horrible economic, political, and social climate of the United States, I have begun to take very early morning walks.

I find my early wanderings through the downtown corridor of my city to be therapeutic. Witnessing the birth of a new day is restorative in a way that both surprises and comforts me.
