"Black women wouldn’t be where we are today if it weren’t for fighting Black women of the past and our rebellious martyrs of the Black Liberation movement."
Black men wouldn't be where we are today either if not for Black women - even though many Black men fail to acknowledge or appreciate this truth. Marley, I should've highlighted your entire article. Thank you for sharing your courageous Mother's story about fighting the discrimination and racism she faced in the workplace. It was sobering to hear about what happened with her former white friends. I learned early on in my adulthood that white people - no matter how seemingly kind and well-meaning - deep down believe they are superior to Black people. It's the result of being reared and raised in a white supremacist society. And a no-fail way to prove it is to step out of the box they put you in. To begin actively fighting against racism and white supremacy. It's why I no longer consider white people "friends" and haven't for years now. I know your Mother's battle cost her and you dearly, but I'm so glad she prevailed.
