When Star Wars debuted in 1977, it left an indelible mark on sci-fi cinema, going on to become a pop culture phenomenon.

I was too young to see Star Wars in theaters. But when its sequels, The Empire Strikes Back and Return Of The Jedi, debuted several years later?

Well, those films defined what an exciting time at the movies meant for me as a teenager.

It was… magic.

In the decades since the original trilogy was released, the Star Wars franchise has developed quite a fraught cinematic history.

From the generally panned, ultimately disappointing prequels, to the controversial films chronicling the end of the Skywalker saga, Star Wars remains a beloved cornerstone of not only science fiction, but pop culture as a whole.

Regardless of the franchise’s up and downs, the original sequels to Star Wars continue to excite and thrill me now as they did many years ago.
